If you are suffering from congestion, massaging your sinuses may help to alleviate some of your irritation. Massaging your sinuses may also help to reduce some of the pressure you feel when your sinuses become clogged. There are different kinds of massages you can try, including a simple, full face massage, and massages that are targeted for specific parts of your face.
Method One : Performing a Simple Sinus Massage
1 Place a small amount of powder or oil on your palm. The powder and oil help to lessen the friction caused by your hands rubbing against your face. The scent of the oil or powder may also help to promote relaxation.
Rub your hands together with your palms facing each other in order to warm your fingers. If your hands are cold, they could cause muscle tension.
2 Locate the indentation of the eye sockets. The indentation of the eye sockets are located on either side of where the bridge of the nose meets the ridge of the eyebrows. When pressure is applied to this area, it can help to relieve colds, sinus congestion, frontal headache and tired eyes.
3 Use prolonged finger pressure directly on the indentation of the eye sockets described in the previous step. The amount of pressure you apply should be somewhere between pleasant and firm.
Press your fingers into the area and move them in a circular motion for one to three minutes.
4 Apply pressure to your cheeks. Move your index and middle finger so that they are placed on either side of your cheek, just outside each nostril.
When pressure is applied to this area, it can help to relieve nasal congestion, sinus pain and facial paralysis
5 Use prolonged finger pressure directly on your cheeks. The amount of pressure you apply should be something between pleasant and firm pressure. Press your fingers into your cheeks and move them in a circular motion for at least one to three minutes.
Stop the massage if it is very painful.
